When; Feb. 9th Afternoon probably
Rating; PG-13
Characters; Elena lady_turk & Glinda popular_likeme
Summary; Glinda decided to go over to try and help Elena in her drunken/upset state. Keyword here is try.
Log;

With disheveled hair, rumpled shirt, wrinkled pants, an overly flushed face, and glassy eyes, Elena was a sight to see. Though it wasn’t exactly the most pleasant of sights to see. It wasn’t that she had never used alcohol as a means to help her forget or suppress her problems or emotional issues before, but normally she knew better than to go out and immediately get drunk when she was in her most frantic and emotional state. Under normal circumstances, she’d give herself a few days and then get completely smashed to push her thoughts to the back of her mind. And under normal circumstances it worked. Once she had pushed them back far enough, she could spend a more appropriate time to dwell on things. Which in some cases meant never.

However, the current situation was most decidedly NOT a normal one. So Elena had decided to do something she’d only done twice before in her entire life. And that was to get as drunk as she could, as quickly as she could all the while being completely emotional and with her mind in a state of chaos. Which explained why she looked as bad and as pathetic as she did.

Currently staring out at nothing and hugging a pillow to her chest, Elena couldn’t help but dwell on how much of a jerk Jr. was for putting her in the position she was in. And then he had the nerve to try and tell her it was all a joke. Scowling as her thoughts went automatically back to the point that had brought her to drink the in the first place, the blonde threw the pillow at the wall with all the force she could muster, causing some of the seems to rip, before grabbing the large bottle of alcohol and chugging enough make a hefty dent in the bottle.

SCREW MEN!!!

The journey from the sixth building to the twelfth was not a horribly long one. It was a generally straight shot across the City, and Glinda made the crossing in only a few minutes.

She carried a bag containing various packets of tea in one hand and a bag of small cakes in the other. The former to hopefully sober up her inebriated friend and the latter to absorb what alcohol she had already ingested. This was not the first time Glinda had admonished Elena for drinking too much, but it was the first time she was going to actually do something about it.

Glinda reached apartment 997 soon enough. She transferred both bags to one hand and knocked loudly on the door.

Turning her head to glare at the door, Elena mentally debated on whether she should answer it or not. She wasn't exactly in the mood for company and the blonde also knew that she'd be a little more uncontrollable than normal. Which, for a lot of people, would be a very bad thing. However, the fastest way for her to be rid of whoever it was that was trying to pay her a visit would be to tell them off and then slam the door in their face.

Muttering to herself various curses and swear words, the blonde stalked over to the door. Opening it with a glare, it took Elena a moment to register exactly who it was that was standing before her.

"Glinda? What the hell?"

Glinda pushed past the other blonde, letting herself into the apartment. "I told you I was coming, Elena. You weren't in that much of a drunken stupor to not understand me."

She lay the bags down on a nearby table and gestured to the nearly half empty bottle of alcohol. "How many times am I going to have to tell you that drinking is bad for you?"

The alcohol had slowed down Elena's thinking process just enough so that she stood aside as Glinda marched in before the situation finally registered. Glaring at the other woman, Elena stubbornly slammed the door behind her and proceeded to march back into the room. Practically throwing herself into the couch, Elena crossed her arms and did, what was a fairly good impression of a pout.

"I think I'm old enough to pick my own poison when it comes to how I want to deal with things," she stated, in an almost haughty tone, had it not been for the slur in her voice that meshed her words together.

"You'd think you'd also be old enough to know not poison your body," Glinda said, rummaging through the bags. She pulled out a cellophane-wrapped plate of tea cakes.

"Here, eat these." She held out the plate to the other woman. "You need something else in your stomach other than alcohol. I'm going to make some tea."

It seemed like all Elena could do after each action that Glinda made was blink for a moment, as if she didn't understand what was going on. And truthfully, she didn't. It made no sense to her. Why was the other woman doing all this? Why did Glinda act like she was so worried about her well-being? Elena didn't even realize her lips were moving until the words had already been spoken.

"Why?" she asked, looking down at the plate of tea cakes. "Why are you acting like it matters what happens to me?"

Glinda stopped halfway to the kitchen, turning to face the other blonde. "... Because it does matter. You're my friend, Elena. I care a lot about what happens to you."

For anyone else, those words would have been a balm for their troubles. For Elena though, all it did was cause her to laugh. It wasn't a happy laugh though. It was bitter, angry, sad, and more like a scoff than anything that could be a sound of joy.

Putting down the plate, Elena raised a hand to cover her mouth. It really was too funny.

"What is so funny? You think I don't care about you? I know I may not act like it sometimes, but I do. You always try to help me when I'm upset or have a problem, and now I'm trying to help you." Glinda placed her arms across her chest. "I don't see what's so funny about that at all."

Letting her laughter trail off slowly, Elena shook her head 'no.' She hadn't been laughing because of that. She had been laughing because the situation seemed so ironic that there didn't seem to be anything else she could do.

Leaning back so that she could turn to face Glinda, Elena's lips twisted into a bitter, regretful smirk. "I'm not a nice person, you know. I'm selfish, cruel, and a rather mean bitch sometimes. And I've done thing that would make your pretty little curls turn straight."

Slowly turning around so that she could rest her elbows on the back of the couch and prop her chin up, she couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. "Do you still want to give a damn about me now?"

Even as she said all those things, there was something in Elena's gut that twisted and burned with each word that got past her lips. It could have been blamed on the alcohol, but saying that was even to sad a lie for Elena to attempt using.

Elena had hinted to Glinda at some of the things she had done before coming to the City, but none of those things made the witch think any less of the other blonde. Elena had been there when Glinda was in need. When she needed to talk, Elena was the one to listen, to give advice.

Glinda turned back to the kitchen. "You're my friend, Elena," she reiterated. "Of course I do."

There was no hestation in her answer. No moment of pause to think, no consideration. There was no need for either of those. She did give a damn about Elena, and nothing the woman had done in her past would change that.

That was the whole point wasn't it. She had friends. She wasn't supposed to have friends. They might prove to be a weakness. Something that could be used against her. If she had been back home, most people wouldn't even think about being friends with a Turk. But here...

Lowering her head, Elena bit the bottom of her lip before spinning around. Grabbing the bottle once more, she quickly took another deep swallow before letting out a deep breath and slamming the bottle on the table.

People liked her. People wanted to be her friend. And then there was someone who also...

Bringing her knees up to her chest, Elena wrapped her arms around her legs and rested her head on top.

"You people are all so stupid..."

"If I hear you pick up that bottle again, I swear..." Glinda called, making her threat from the kitchen. She rummaged through Elena's cabinets until she found a tea kettle, filling it with water and setting it on the stove to boil.

"I'm sure you've heard the saying about the pot and the kettle and... however it goes. I've only heard it once; I don't remember the rest." She exited the kitchen and took a seat next to Elena, laying a comforting hand on the other woman's shoulder. "You want to at least tell me who else is so stupid?"

Snorting, Elena doubted that anything Glinda could do would get her to stop drinking. Short of drinking it herself, Elena wasn't giving up the bottle.

At any other time, Elena would never say anything about any sort of concern that was bothering her. She kept silent and to herself. But everything was already so messed up and different that did it really matter anymore?

"... Me... and Jr.... More him because he's the bigger idiot for starting all of this," Elena said softly, her voice no louder than a whisper. If Glinda hadn't been sitting next to her, Elena doubted that she would have been able to hear her.

"Look at me, Elena. I can hardly hear you." Glinda squeezed Elena's shoulder, her voice soft. "Tell me what happened. What made you want to drink yourself sick, Elena?"

Even just thinking about everything caused Elena's eyes to sting and for her gut to twist. Still, she was as stubborn as she ever was, even drunk, Elena wouldn't give in on the desire to cry. Anger was better. Anger was safer and easier to deal with.

Reaching for another couch pillow, Elena threw the thing across the room before getting up and punching the wall as well, leaving a fair-sized dent. Blinking furiously, she bit her lip and used the fall of her hair to hide her eyes from Glinda's view.

"Because the fucking bastard said things were a joke. Because he shouldn't have even said anything in the first place. Because being drunk is better than remembering," she stated. Her voice was level and even, but tight with her anger and the achohol.

Glinda jumped at the displays of anger, hand across her fluttering heart. "Elena..." she whispered.

She was hesitant to stand and move closer to the other woman, not knowing whether Elena would strike out again, and if she did, at whom it would be directed. But Glinda ignored the voice in the back of her head, as she so often did. Instead of staying seated as her mind commanded her, she stood, slowly making her way to the other blonde. She hesitantly wrapped trembling arms around Elena, hoping to calm the woman.

"Come back and sit down. Tell me what's going on. I know you don't want to remember, but drinking isn't going to make it go away. Come on," she said, leading Elena back to the couch.

Instantly tensing up the moment she felt the other woman's arms around, Elena held back any actions she might have made at first. The trembling in her arms drove home the point that Glinda really did regard her as a friend, even if she had tried to scare her off earlier. Letting out a sigh instead, Elena loosened her muscles and nodded, allowing herself to be lead to the couch again.

Sitting back down, Elena leaned back to rest her head on the back of the couch, and just gaze up at the ceiling. Her eyes stung, but she stubbornly blinked away the feeling and swallowed, forcing herself to calm down. How would she explain things to Glinda? It was confusing and complicated and so messed up. And part of it was all her fault.

"I..." Licking her lips, Elena wanted to reach for the bottle once more, but she had a feeling she'd be stopped before she got the chance. Swallowing, she tried again.

"I like someone and I'm pretty sure like me."

"Maybe I missed something," Glinda began, "But since when is that a bad thing. To like and be liked in return, that's..."

The witch trailed off, things she didn't want to remember rushing back. Fiyero, the only man she had ever come close to loving, leaving her for her best friend. To like and be liked in return...

"That's wonderful, Elena," she finished.

Turning her head slightly to look at Glinda as she picked up on the hesitation, Elena raised an eyebrow; before lazily lifting her head up and reaching for the alcohol bottle. She'd had vodka, rum earlier, and now the current bottle contained whiskey. And it was a fairly good bottle, if Elena said so herself.

Pouring some into the glass that lay neglected on the table, Elena put down the whiskey and picked up the glass. Instead of drinking it herself though, Elena held it out in Glinda's direction.

"I'm still not drunk enough to tell you everything, but since you won't let me have anymore, you'll have to join me if you want to find out why it's not a wonderful thing," Elena stated. She was surprisingly clear sounding and steady despite how upset she'd been only moments before. There was still a slur, but it wasn't as bad as before.

Glinda looked at the glass for a moment, and then slowly shook her head. "No. I don't drink, Elena. Never have." She reached out and pushed the hand proffering the drink gently away. "Drinking is a vice, if I haven't already said that enough. And I believe I much rather be sober, anyways, to better understand what's going on with you."

Letting a little smile dance on her lips, and not her ususal smirk, Elena made it seem like she had accepted the other woman's refusal, putting down the glass on the table in front of them.

"All right fine, but I'd rather tell you what's going on with you a bit more relaxed about things. It'd make me feel more comfortable. Or maybe..." And here her smile turned smug. "Maybe you don't think you can handle a little alcohol?"

"I never said I couldn't handle it!" the blonde snapped, snatching up the glass from the table. "I just choose not to drink it."

She eyed the translucent liquid warily. ... A little wouldn't hurt her, would it? A sip. Only a sip. She raised the glass to her lips and took a little of the drink in her mouth. It burned on its way down and Glinda tried not to choke.

"See?" she said, coughing, eyes watering. "I can handle it."

At such a show of bravado and actually giving in to her dare, Elena chuckled lightly. It was amusing how Glinda had tried to prove that she could handle something that it took some people a little while to work up to. Not that she'd tell Glinda that fact. It was more amusing this way. Misery did love company, after all.

"I bet you didn't even taste it yet," Elena dared. "If you'd like, I could mix it into some milk for you. Maybe then you'd be able to keep up with the big girls."

"No, no! It's fine, really it is," Glinda lied, eyes squeezed shut. Whatever Elena had given her, it tased terrible, and Glinda longed to put the glass down and be done with it.

"See? It's fine." The witch took another, longer drink from the glass, just barely choking it down.

She had to give the woman points for her tenacity, if nothing else. Smiling faintly, Elena let out a deep breath, blowing at her hair, making it flutter a little. Well, she had stated that she'd start talking when Glinda was a little drunk herself.

"So now that you've proved that it's fine, and that you can handle a little alcohol, I suppose I should start explaining," Elena said, letting out another sigh. She still didn't want to say anything at all, but.... Well... things were different and that was always something she'd have to keep in mind.

"Just... Where do you want me to start?"

"Mmm, it's your story. Wherever you want." Glinda was already swaying slightly in her seat, the alcohol beginning to take effect. She had only had a few sips, but her body was small, and her tolerance low. A few sips was all she needed.

And this was one of the reasons why Elena was so hesitant to say anything in the first place. Sighing and on chewing on the inside of her cheek as she thought, Elena tried to think of what would be the best way to start, without saying too, too much and without confusing the other woman.

"... I'm not really supposed to like anyone," Elena slowly began. "It's considered to be too great of a risk."

"Likeing someone sometimes means taking a chance, Elena, but it's really not that serious." The witch drained the glass and settled back in her seat, feeling slightly sick.
